Specifically designed for commercial and professional-grade vessels, the Simrad GN70 provides professional mariners the perfect IMO Compliant* solution for displaying critical on-board navigation information
Simrad, a leading brand in professional marine electronic solutions, owned by Navico, the world's largest marine electronics company, today announced the arrival of their new IMO-Type Approved* Navigation System, the Simrad GN70. Specifically designed for commercial and professional-grade vessels, the Simrad GN70 provides professional mariners the perfect IMO Compliant* solution for displaying critical on-board navigation information. Unlike other IMO Compliant navigation systems with limited integration capabilities, the cost-effective Simrad GN70 has a significantly faster data transfer rate and plug-and-play compatibility with other NMEA 2000 Devices**.
Rapid and easy access to key navigation data is critical for commercial vessel operators. The Simrad GN70 Control and Display Unit (CDU) boasts a large, fog-proof, 5-Inch colour TFT-bonded display screen for clear presentation of data and allows the operator to access critical navigation information with the touch of a button. Four dedicated hotkeys (POS, NAV, HDG and AIS) provide access to the most frequently used navigation data with additional functions easily accessible via the dropdown menus.
The Simrad GN70 is designed for use with a variety of Simrad GPS Antennas. When paired with the new Simrad GS70 NMEA 2000 GPS Smart Antenna the system provides rapid and precise IMO compliant GPS positioning. With the dual-frequency, 32-channel GNSS receiver with SBAS (WAAS) capability, the Simrad GS70 will maximise satellite acquisition and reception anywhere in the world. Precise location is assured with a user-selectable update rate of 1Hz, 5Hz or 10Hz.
Alternative GPS solutions can also be used with the Simrad GN70 via either the NMEA 2000 interface or NMEA 0183 with the addition of a junction box. The NMEA 2000 compliant Simrad HS80 GPS Compass provides dual IMO compliancy for navigation and heading functions and the Simrad MX521A GPS Smart Antenna provides GPS position accuracy within 3 meters.
CEO of Navico, the parent company to the Simrad brand, Leif Ottosson said "The Simrad GN70 is a new cost-effective addition to our navigation display range. Each commercial vessel has differing marine electronics requirements and we want to ensure that we can provide a customized solution that meets all individual circumstances."
