Simrad® Commercial is pleased to announce a significant regulatory milestone with the successful achievement of both Module B (Type Examination) and Module D (Production Quality Assurance) certifications under the UK Marine Equipment Regulations (UK MER). This certification applies to several core navigation and vessel control systems, including Simrad Heading Control Systems (autopilots), the Simrad R5000 Radar system, and Simrad ECDIS900 MK5B and MK15B. With these approvals in place, these systems are now fully compliant for installation on UK-flagged vessels and eligible to carry the UK Red Ensign mark.
Strengthening a Proven Commercial Portfolio
This milestone builds on Simrad Commercial’s established portfolio of certified professional navigation equipment. Existing UK MER-approved products already include gyrocompass systems and the Simrad R1 speed log, reinforcing a long-standing commitment to delivering reliable, standards-compliant solutions for commercial operators.
By expanding certification across additional product categories, Simrad continues to support vessel operators, shipbuilders, and integrators with a broader range of compliant systems for UK-regulated vessels.
Meeting the Requirements of UK Marine Equipment Regulations
The UK MER framework, established under the Merchant Shipping (Marine Equipment) Regulations 2025, defines strict requirements for marine equipment used onboard UK-flagged vessels. Certification confirms that products meet rigorous standards for performance, design, and manufacturing processes.
Achieving both Module B and Module D certification ensures not only that the products meet technical requirements, but also that manufacturing processes are controlled and compliant, enabling consistent product quality.

With this latest certification, Simrad Commercial further strengthens its ability to support the professional marine market with fully compliant navigation and control systems.
Additional certifications for GNSS, instruments, and echosounder systems are currently in progress, as Simrad continues to expand its certified offering in line with evolving regulatory requirements.
