Simrad autopilots have continued a long-standing winning tradition at the recently concluded National Marine Electronics Association (NMEA) convention in San Diego, California by taking the 2008 Best Autopilot Award for the new Simrad AP24 Marine Autopilot and Simrad AP28 Marine Autopilot.
This prestigious award, which is voted on by non-manufacturing active NMEA members and NMEA-certified marine electronics technicians, was accepted by Louis Chemi, Navico Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Americas. Navico is the world leader in marine electronics for the recreational boating market, incorporating the B&G, Eagle, Lowrance, Northstar and Simrad brands.
These new Simrad autopilots are the most advanced yet, offering owners of power and sailboats from 25 to 80 feet in length a combination of sophisticated steering features, SimNet integration and world-renowned Simrad reliability. Both the Simrad AP24 Marine Autopilot and Simrad AP28 Marine Autopilot models feature the company’s proven Virtual Rudder Feedback (VRF™) technology, which eliminates the need for a rudder feedback unit when installed on outboard-powered or stern-drive vessels. This exclusive Simrad technology allows for easier installation and improved reliability, while actually reducing overall system cost.
In addition, both these versatile new autopilots were recently approved for installation on a wide range of Volvo Penta Inboard Performance System (IPS) and Electronic Vessel Control (EVC) equipped vessels, bringing Simrad autopilot innovation and performance to dozens of premium powerboat brands. These autopilots offer a long list of advanced steering features for powerboat and sailboat applications, including Integrated Turn Patterns, Depth Contour Tracking, Integrated Steering Algorithms, No Drift Course Steering, Advanced Wind Steering, Instrument Data Display, and much more.
”We’ve applied decades of auto steering experience to develop new autopilots for real-world conditions, with features that today’s navigators truly want,” said Louis Chemi. ”At the same time, this latest generation of autopilots continues the Simrad tradition of robust design and reliability at sea. We’re pleased that the NMEA voting members agree, and honoured to accept this award on behalf of the Navico family,” Chemi added.
